The day started with this: a half-block walk to breakfast. Have backpack, will travel. As it turned out, we didn’t need any of the pack’s contents because the restaurant delivered an iPad Mini to The Who along with his menu. Mixed feelings about that, but “grateful” is probably the winner.
After breakfast, we followed a friendly tip and visited a local toy/craft store. Such a thing exists. It was positively dreamy. (And it didn’t hurt that it was two doors down from a Starbucks and across the street from a used bookstore.)
The craft. Glittering napkin rings. Useful!
After some lunch, we headed down the boardwalk in search of a surrey to ride us the 10ish blocks to Wonderland. Of course, there was nary a surrey to be found. Because this is Summer Vacation ’14 and if anything can suck, it will. We ended up just hoofing it, which wasn’t as bad as I had anticipated despite the near-90 degree heat and blazing sun.
Our good pals were waiting there for us (with a delicious 3-week-old baby for me to sniff) and we bought ride tickets and turned this mofo a-ROUND.
The Who, previously not much for the rides, seems to have taken a leap of maturity in the past couple of months. He rode his first roller coaster, went into the haunted house without me, and finally chose a horse instead of the bench on the carousel!
It *was* one of the stationary horses. But, still. Baby steps.
And what day on the boards is complete without custard? He killed it. Dead.
Tomorrow, we check into the hotel that boasts this beauty. We’ve found out that, as much as we truly love the ocean, we are not so much beach people. We are pool people. Pool people who prefer to look at the beach while swimming. In the pool. Which we will be doing. Tomorrow.
I’m glad we stuck it out here. Glad we pushed through a bunch of crap to end up here. We’re together. We’re clean and sunned and fed and rested. Vacation redemption.
